Zen Buddhist Meditation and Discussion

  • TheSpaceVta 1779 East Main Street Ventura United States (map)

The Zen Buddhist form of meditation is called Zazen which translates to “Just Sitting.”

While practicing Zazen one simply focuses on the posture and the breath in order to bring awareness and attention to the present moment. By just sitting, one can begin to notice how mental activity affects the posture and the awareness of breath. The practice begins when one comes back to focusing on the posture and breath. This action of returning to the practice of just sitting is one that we can use to help still and balance the mind and body.

In this meditation session, we will sit Zazen for thirty minutes, follow up with a discussion of Buddhist Philosophy, and enjoy tea and snacks. These sessions will be led by Natalie Gula, a student of Zen who has been practicing for the last five years under the Dogen Sangha Lineage.

This class is run on donation, a tradition in the Buddhist culture called Dana, which goes into helping the teacher and the space in which we practice. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds; suggested donation is $15 or whatever one can afford to give.

Donations will be accepted by the Natalie before or after the class.
